What is BCD's ready build plans program?

As authorized by Senate Bill 582 from the 2013 legislature, the Building Codes Division may now provide typical plans and specifications for structures that are metal or wood frame Use and Occupancy Classification Group U structures or those structures exempted under the architects/engineers law.

In response to the bill, the division has prepared and are making available through our website, complete plans for a variety of pole barn configurations which are compatible with virtually any design parameters in the state. Short of verifying compliance with local design parameters, the plans are "pre-approved."

Consistent with division objectives across all program areas, the goal of this program is to streamline the permitting process, expedite service delivery and increase predictability for our customers.

How does the ready build plans program work?
Local jurisdictions choosing to participate in the program may download plans from BCD's website and make them available to their customers.

In addition, building officials and inspectors, when acting within the scope of direct employment by a municipality, may develop their own typical "pre-approved" plans and specifications for structures which are exempted under the architects/engineers law.

Are pre-approved ready build plans subject to inspection?

Yes, normal inspection fees and protocols must be followed.

How do property owners obtain ready build plans?
Interested parties should contact their local participating building department for more information.
