Beware of Craigslist ads offering to lend you money.

These ads may be posted by people claiming to be loan brokers affiliated with known banks. They may even provide information about the banks such as a website address to make them appear more legitimate.

People post these ads with an intent to commit fraud. They may ask for copies of personal information such as a driver's license, pay stubs, and passports which they can then use to steal your identity. Click here for more information on how to protect yourself from identity theft.

The ads may also request a loan processing fee to be paid up front. Once the funds have been sent, it is virtually impossible to get the money refunded.

Consumers should always be skeptical of loan advertisements that request personal information or money.
