Investment adviser designations
Examinations for an individual seeking to be licensed as an investment adviser
representative are waived for an individual who holds a current designation of CFA, CFP, ChFC,
CIC, or PFS.
The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is granted by the Association
for Investment Management and Research. AIMR offers services in three broad categories: education
through seminars and publications, professional conduct and ethics, and standards of practice

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is administered by the Certified
Financial Planner Board of Standards. A number of education programs and work experience backgrounds
may satisfy the CFP Board's requirements. Please see its Web

The Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) designation is awarded by The American
College following successful completion of national examinations in a number of financial and
insurance areas. Online courses are available. Please see The

The Chartered Investment Counselor (CIC) designation is awarded by the Investment
Adviser Association to those individuals who hold the CFA designation, demonstrate significant
experience in certain areas, and are employed in an eligible position with a federal-covered
investment adviser which is a member of the Investment Adviser Association. Please see the

The Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation is administered by the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The designation is awarded to CPAs who have considerable
