With the passage of Senate
Bill (SB) 1025 during the 2010 Special Session, the Building
Codes Division (BCD) was directed to adopt a radon mitigation
standard by January 1, 2011 for "new"
public buildings which are constructed in Baker, Clackamas,
Hood River, Multnomah, Polk, Washington and Yamhill Counties
for which initial building permits are issued on or after
April 1, 2013. The bill required the Building
Codes Structures Board (BCSB) to consider radon mitigation
standards recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA).
With the assistance of key stakeholders, the BCSB recommended
adoption of a new Section 1811 for inclusion in the 2010 Oregon
Structural Specialty Code in keeping with the January
1, 2011 legislative timeline.
The purpose of the current ad hoc group is to participate
in the review and recommendation of further refinements to
Section 1811 as the division moves forward with the April
1, 2013 implementation date.
