Master Builder Program


Examinations are administered by the division and cover the provisions of the Oregon Residential Specialty Code, excluding electrical, plumbing and mechanical.

Individuals must score a minimum of 75 percent to successfully pass the exam. If an applicant fails the examination, it may be taken again (there is no waiting period) by resubmitting an application form with the required $150 fee. Application fees are nonrefundable.

Upon approval of a master builder application, BCD will send a letter authorizing you to sit for the Master Builder Certification examination at one of these locations.

 

Content Outline


The Master Builder Program allows certified master builders to perform plan reviews and required verifications that the building official has waived. Individuals participating in this program must complete a division approved training program, and pass an examination covering the Oregon Residential Specialty Code.

The exam covers following subject areas:

  • Administration Roof-ceiling construction

  • Chimneys and Fireplaces Roof coverings

  • Decay and Termite Protection Site inspections or conditions

  • Energy conservation Wall construction, assemblies and coverings

  • Footings and foundations Wood and metal framing
