The Southern Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Conference will be held October 23 and 24 at the Smullin Center, 2825 Barnett Road in Medford. The conference will feature nationally recognized speakers Peter and Susan Glaser presenting the keynote speech, "The Hidden Dimension of Human Communications" and a day-long course to teach participants how to "Break Through Conflict" at work.

Topics scheduled at the conference include "Preparing for Domestic Terrorism", "Developing a Safety Culture", "Workplace Violence - Strategies for Prevention and Survival", "Sprains, Strains, and Things That Go Numb in the Night" and many more safety and health workshops. Many of the classes have been designed to benefit Southern Oregon's expanding health care services professions.

"There is a very strong track of the conference devoted to the health care industry," says Laveryne Gray of Oregon OSHA's Conferences Section. "There will be classes about how over-the-counter drugs can affect your clients and how to handle bloodborne pathogens protection with the advances in needle technology that have occurred in the past few years," says Gray.

Registration fees for the conference are $115 to attend both days of the event, or $80 to attend one day of the conference. Wednesday's "Break Through Conflict" training session has an additional $20 fee for materials. The Southern Oregon Conference is a co-production of Oregon OSHA and the Southern Oregon Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
