A training class to educate the construction industry about the revised Oregon rules for steel erection is coming to Salem in February.

The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) developed the FREE training to provide labor, management and government agencies with the information needed to implement new standards that were placed in effect in April 2002. The FREE course is scheduled to be in Salem on February 11 from 8:00am to Noon in Training Room 'C' of the Labor and Industries Building, 350 Winter Street NE is downtown Salem.

Oregon OSHA implemented substantial changes to the Steel Erection standard (also known as Chapter 437, Division 3, Subdivision R of the Oregon Administrative Rules) in 2002, adopting changes which included fall-protection requirements for each worker performing their duties at or above ten feet off the ground. The class will review the entire standard, including site-specific planning, structural steel assembly, systems-engineered metal buildings and fall protection.

The training class is a service of the Joint Emphasis Program (JEP) created by Oregon OSHA to reduce construction injuries and fatalities through education and partnerships. Classes in the Steel Erection standard are also scheduled for Eugene during March.
