Free safety and health workshops in Lincoln City

The Department of Consumer and Business Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will be offering two days of free workplace safety & health training sessions in Lincoln City during November. Workshops will be held at Oregon Coast Community College's Small Business Development Center, 1206 SE 48th Street.

Tuesday November 15 - 8:00am to Noon
Safety Committee Basic Training

This workshop gives safety committee members, especially new members, insight into their roles and how important safety committees are to building safer workplaces. The class addresses topics such as meeting management, problem-solving, and writing recommendations and reviews safety rules that apply in all Oregon workplaces. This workshop meets Oregon OSHA basic rule requirements for safety committee training.

Tuesday November 15 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm
Excavation and the Competent Person

Excavation work is a hazardous but necessary process in construction and public utilities work. This workshop will cover the specific hazards unique to excavation, safety regulations, shoring systems, requirements for protective equipment, soil classification and planning considerations. A special focus of the class is explaining Oregon OSHA's 'competent person' requirements for excavation and construction projects.

Wednesday November 16 - 8:00am to Noon
Safety and Health Management: The Basics

This workshop is designed to be an overview training about the interrelated elements of an effective safety management system. The instructor will provide a model written safety and health plan that you can incorporate into operations at your workplace. This class is recommended as a good starting point for an employee who may be new to safety committee duties or workplace safety and health responsibilities.

Introduction to Safety Training

Providing training on safe practices is important for any workplace. Over 100 safety standards enforced by Oregon OSHA require a training component. This workshop introduces students to designing and presenting workplace safety and health training, including developing lesson plans and documenting that workers are correctly trained.
