Oregon OSHA offers free training in Roseburg

ROSEBURG - The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (OR-OSHA) will offer free training sessions to members of the Roseburg-area business community during two days of workshops in May.

The Public Education and Conferences Section of Oregon OSHA will be offering four different workshops during the training sessions on May 21 and 22:

  • Confined Space Safety, 8:00am May 21.
  • Fall Protection, 1:00pm May 21.
  • What to Expect From an OR-OSHA Inspection, 8:00am May 22.
  • Excavation Safety, 1:00pm May 22.

‘Confined Space Safety’ will help participants learn about the special safety requirements when a worker will be inside of a confined space (or inside of machinery), and when a special permit is required.  ‘Fall Protection’ teaches participants about safety equipment required in the construction industry, and how to plan ahead to prevent workplace fall-related injuries. ‘What to Expect From an OR-OSHA Inspection’ helps clear up some misconceptions about Oregon OSHA, and how an OR-OSHA compliance officer conducts an inspection or investigation on a worksite (including what rights and responsibilities both employers and employees have when a compliance officer shows up). ‘Excavation Safety’ helps participants understand safety requirements unique to underground work or trench work.

The workshops will be held at Umpqua Community College’s Community Education Timber Room, 1140 College Road in Roseburg. OR-OSHA provides workshop materials for participants.

Oregon OSHA offers a variety of conferences, on-site training, educational resources and consultation services to help Oregon employers create safer workplaces and reduce the amount of productivity lost due to injuries which occur at work. Additional information and resources are available on Oregon OSHA’s website, www.orosha.org
