The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will be presenting two days of free training classes for employers and workers in Roseburg during February.

The Public Education Section of Oregon OSHA will be offering four different workshops during the training sessions on February 12 and 13:

Hazard Identification and Control, 8:00am February 12.
Safety Leadership, 1:00pm February 12.
Safety & Health Program Evaluation, 8:00am February 13.
Powered Industrial Truck Safety, 1:00pm February 13.

Hazard Identification and Control
This workshop will help participants uncover a hazardous condition or practices in the workplace, and take steps to correct the situation.

Safety Leadership
Creating a safe workplace requires active participation by workers, and leadership from safety personnel. This workshop will show participants how to build strong working relationships between workers and management, relationships that create safer workplaces. Persons interested in attending this workshop should already have completed Oregon OSHA's 'Safety and Health Management' class and 'Effective Safety Supervision' class.

Safety & Health Program Evaluation
This is an advanced workshop for safety and health professionals who want to be able to critique their company's safety and health operations. This class is valuable for those employers working towards membership in Oregon OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) or the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Persons interested in attending should already have completed Oregon OSHA's Safety and Health Management class, or have at least two years of safety and health experience.

Powered Industrial Truck Safety
More than one million forklifts are in commercial use currently in the United States and many traditional safety barriers which once prevented customers from coming into contact with forklifts no longer exist, especially as retail stores expand and reduce showroom expenses. Having a forklift training and operations safety plan in place at your business to protect employees and customers is more urgent than ever. The workshop will explain how forklifts perform differently from cars, address stability and center of gravity concerns, Oregon OSHA 'rules of the road' for safe operations of powered trucks, and designing a training program which will create a safe environment for workers and customers. (Note: this a classroom training about forklift safety, not a driving-based training.)

The workshops will be held at Umpqua Community College's Community Education Rooms (Indian & Timber Rooms), 1140 College Road in Roseburg. Oregon OSHA provides workshop materials for participants.
