Oregon OSHA offers no-cost safety training in The Dalles
The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) will
be offering several no-cost training sessions to employers and workers
in The Dalles during July.
July 9, 2003
Safety and Health Management 8:00am to Noon
Safety Committee Operations 1:00pm to 5:00pm
"Safety and Health Management" is an overview training about
the interrelated elements of an effective safety management system. The
instructor will provide a model written safety and health plan that you
can incorporate into operations at your workplace. This class is recommended
as a good starting point for an employee who may be new to safety committee
duties or workplace safety and health responsibilities. "Safety Committee
Operations" will introduce participants to basic safety committee
responsibilities and procedures.
July 10, 2003
Accident Investigation 8:00am to Noon
Hazard Identification and Control 1:00pm to 5:00pm
"Accident Investigation" introduces class participants to the
basics of investigating a workplace accident. The training covers concepts
such as securing an accident scene, gathering information and effective
interviewing, determining surface and root causes for an incident, and
writing a report that reconstructs events and makes recommendations for
preventing repeat occurrences. The "Hazard Identification and Control"
workshop will help participants detect a hazardous condition or practice
in the workplace, and identify steps to correct them.
July 23, 2003
Safety Committee Training 9:00am to Noon
The safety committee training will educate safety committee members about
their duties and responsibilities, training requirements and the purpose
of safety committees. The class will also review the mandatory 'Rules
for All Workplaces' in Oregon, and how to solve problems using a safety
committee. This workshop meets Oregon OSHA requirements for basic Hazard
Identification and Accident Investigation training.
July 24, 2003
One hour workshops 8:30am to Noon
· Back Safety
· Violence in the Workplace
· Personal Protective Equipment
All three one-hour courses are presented during one class session, giving
employers an opportunity to select the areas where they need additional
training. The "Back Safety" course helps employers identify
ergonomic risk factors associated with back injuries and introduces methods
to control those risks. "Violence in the Workplace" includes
topics regarding assessment, de-escalation of potentially violent situations
in the workplace, and employer responsibilities. The "Personal Protective
Equipment" course gives participants an overview of the requirements
placed on employers for the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
in the workplace. Topics include information about hazard assessment to
determine needed PPE and suggested methods for protecting the head, face,
hands, feet, and torso.
All of the training classes will be held at the Columbia Gorge Community
College, 400 East Scenic Drive in The Dalles. To register for the workshop,
fax your request on company letterhead to (503) 947-7462 or register on
