Weyerhaeuser Springfield Timberlands is a SHARP Graduate
(Springfield) The Department of Consumer and Business Services, Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) today announced Weyerhaeuser Springfield Timberlands has reached 'SHARP Graduate'
status in the Oregon OSHA Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).
Weyerhaeuser Springfield Timberlands has maintained a three-year injury and illness average that is 70 percent below the state average for logging employers, while averaging 150,000 hours worked each
year. Weyerhaeuser Springfield Timberlands employs 75 people.
"Continuous improvement in safety and health benefits everyone, says Michael Wood, administrator of Oregon OSHA. Workers come home safe to their families, productivity improves and
business costs from accidents go down. Participating in the SHARP program helps employers see those benefits right away.
SHARP is a recognition program that provides an incentive and road map for Oregon employers to work with their employees to find and correct hazards, to develop and implement effective safety-and-health
programs, to continuously improve, and become self-sufficient in managing occupational safety-and-health issues. Currently, 106 employers in Oregon participate in the safety-and-health recognition
Membership in SHARP does not restrict Oregon OSHA regulatory enforcement. Employees retain all workplace safety and health rights contained in the Oregon Safe Employment Act. Oregon employers who have
been in business for more than one year are eligible to apply for SHARP regardless of size or type of business.
